Steps
Step 1: Know when you need it
Landlords, housing programs, lenders, and state tax offices often ask for it. It is sometimes called a "summary of benefits" letter.
Step 2: Download it online
Sign in to VA.gov and go to "Download VA letters and documents." Choose the letter you need and save or print it.
Step 3: Or ask for it by phone
Call the VA benefits line and ask them to mail you a copy. It takes longer by mail.
Step 4: Keep a copy safe
Keep one printed copy with your DD214. Give copies only to programs that truly need them.
