Help for a gambling problem

A gambling problem can hurt your money, family, and health. Free, private help is available, and the VA treats gambling problems too.

What you may need

  • A phone

Steps

  1. Step 1: Call or text the national helpline

Call or text 1-800-MY-RESET (800-697-3738), or chat online. It is free, private, and open 24/7. They connect you to local help.

  2. Step 2: Tell your VA provider

The VA says recovery starts with telling a health care provider about your gambling. They can connect you to treatment.

  3. Step 3: Ask about VA live-in treatment

The VA runs live-in programs for gambling problems, including one in Las Vegas that treats gambling and substance use together. Ask your provider about a referral.

  4. Step 4: Join a free support group

Gamblers Anonymous has meetings in person, online, and by phone. Its hotline is 855-222-5542. Family members can find support through Gam-Anon.

If gambling has caused debt, see our money guides. A free, accredited helper can also help you plan next steps.
