Steps
Step 1: Visit an American Job Center
These free centers are in every state. Veterans get priority service. Ask for the veterans staff, who specialize in helping veterans.
Step 2: Turn military skills into job words
Job center staff and the CareerOneStop website can help you explain your military skills in words employers understand.
Step 3: Try a free nonprofit
Groups like Hire Heroes USA give free resume help and job coaching to veterans and military spouses.
Step 4: Have a disability? Ask about VR&E
If you have a service-connected disability, VR&E may give you even more help. See our VR&E guide.
