How to file a claim under the PACT Act (toxic exposure)

The PACT Act made it easier for veterans exposed to burn pits, Agent Orange, and other toxins to get health care and disability pay.

What you may need

  • Your DD214
  • Where and when you served
  • Any medical records about your condition

Steps

  1. Step 1: Check the list of conditions

The law added many "presumptive" conditions. That means the VA assumes your service caused them if you served in certain places and times. Check the official list.

  2. Step 2: Get a toxic exposure screening

If you are enrolled in VA health care, ask for a free toxic exposure screening. It takes about 5 to 10 minutes.

  3. Step 3: File your claim

Use VA Form 21-526EZ. If you were denied before for a condition now on the list, you can file again.

  4. Step 4: Get free help

A Veterans Service Officer can help you show where you served and file the claim for free.

Survivors of veterans who died from a toxic exposure condition may also qualify for benefits.
