How SSVF can help with rent, deposits, and moving costs
SSVF (Supportive Services for Veteran Families) pays local nonprofits to help veteran families keep their home or move into a new one quickly.
What you may need
- Proof of veteran status, like a DD214
- Proof of income
- An eviction notice or lease, if you have one
Steps
Step 1: Check if you may qualify
SSVF is for very low-income veteran families who are homeless or at risk of losing housing. Your local SSVF group will check.
Step 2: Find your local SSVF provider
Call the homeless veterans line and ask for SSVF near you, or use the provider list on the VA website.
Step 3: Know what SSVF can pay for
It may help with rent, security deposits, utility bills, and moving costs for a short time. It can also help with child care and rides.
Step 4: Work with a case manager
A case manager helps you make a plan, find a place, and connect to other benefits like income or health care.
Call as soon as you get an eviction notice. SSVF works best before you lose your home.
