Steps
Step 1: Visit a Veterans Business Outreach Center
These SBA centers give free business planning help and training to veterans, service members, and military spouses.
Step 2: Take a free class
Boots to Business is a free SBA course that teaches the basics of starting a business.
Step 3: Get certified for government contracts
SBA VetCert certifies veteran-owned and service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses. This can help you win federal contracts.
Step 4: Find a free mentor
Ask your outreach center about free mentors, such as volunteers from SCORE, an SBA partner.
Be careful of companies that charge to "certify" your business. SBA VetCert is free.
